Course taught by Sophie Gooley (MAR)
For further information call Sophie on 07710773539

Description:

The cancer journey can be both emotional and physically exhausting. Reflexology can offer some respite during this journey. The touch of reflexology alone can be therapeutic to patients and their carers; other benefits include symptom relief, emotional support, assistance with sleep and support for continuation of treatment. The Reflexology and Cancer course is for those therapists who wish to work with cancer patients and their carers. The aim of the course is to give confidence to therapists to work with any cancer patient and also to dispel any myths there may be surrounding reflexology and cancer. The course includes both theory and practical. The theory includes; what cancer is, its causes & types, the signs & symptoms, the treatments & their side effects. We also discuss the cancer journey and how this affects the patient. Within this we include the role of reflexology and its benefits emotionally & physically. Finally we examine safe practice; contra-indications, precautions & cross infection. The afternoon concentrates on practical treatment. We talk about how we can adapt treatments to both the patient and the environment, as well as discussing adaptation of techniques. Students will be given case histories to practice on each other and which will then be discussed within the group. We also talk about how to treat the carers. At the end of the course we can suggest placements that may be available.
